Photo Essay
The subject for my photo essay was mixed martial arts and I took my photos at a gym. I selected this place because I have grown up doing martial arts and it has forever changed my life, so I wanted to capture the moments of other children as they learn. I'm trying to portray the significance of martial arts that many people overlook when they hear about it.My images captured the story because they show a variety of stages the school as a whole goes through. From different kids of many ages, to new schools and achievements. I visually unified my series of photos by connecting them with their color and shapes. The black, red, and gold flow together as well as the shape of the cages. I believe that image #3 is the strongest in the set. In this photo we see a lot of different shapes between the cage in front and in back, and the bags and tires in the background. This photo also follows the rule of thirds because of the position of the pole of the cage. The angle of the picture also shows the leading lines of the cage on the side and gives a good view of the whole space.
